About the Recipe

Momma says that biscuits are best fresh out the oven... But make sure to let them cool for a few minutes so they don't burn your tongue!
*Do not cook without an adult.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all purpose flour

  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda

  • 2 teaspoons sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 1 stick cold unsalted butter, sliced

  • 3/4 cup buttermilk

Preparation

Step 1

Preheat oven to 450 degrees.

Step 2

Line your baking sheet with parchment paper.

Step 3

In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, sugar and salt.

Step 4

Add sliced cold butter.

Step 5

Pour buttermilk into mixture and begin folding with a spoon.

Step 6

Once ingredients begin to come together Momma likes to use her hands to work the dough so the butter gets fully incorporated.

Step 7

Put dough on a lightly floured cutting board and roll out with rolling pin until it’s about 1/2” thick. If its a little more or a little less its ok.

Step 8

Use biscuit cutter or the open end of any drinking glass to cut out the biscuits by pressing down until the biscuit is formed.

Step 9

Rework the dough to form a new ball and repeat the rollout process and cutting out until all the dough is used.

Step 10

Place all formed biscuits on the baking sheet touching each other, brushing the tops of each biscuit with buttermilk.(Momma sometimes brushes them with a beaten egg)

Step 11

Bake for 14-17 minutes or until lightly golden brown.
